T-Mobile US Sony Xperia Z users were stuck with Jelly Bean 4.2.2, build version 10.3.1.E.0.191 for a long time. Few days ago, T-Mobile US announced that it has released firmware build 10.4.C.0.808 but somehow that update never reached Xperia Z users.
However, it is now confirmed that T-Mobile US Sony Xperia Z Jelly Bean 4.3 update has finally rolled out but with firmware build 10.4.C.0.814 instead of 10.4.C.0.808. Also it is confirmed that this update upgrades your device from Android 4.2.2 to Jelly Bean 4.3.
According to official T-Mobile US Sony Xperia Z webpage, this update brings feature and improvements. Official changelogs mention that master reset using hardware keys has been introduced. User interface has been introduced, for example Settings has a soft white background now, Off toggles are light gray now whereas On toggles are light(pastel) blue. Music Unlimited application has been moved to the Walkman application and Play Memories application has been moved to Album application. There are many other UI changes and some of the apps have received an update.
Since the update is available in form of OTA update, this update will be released in gradual steps. So, it might be a while until you receive a OTA update notification on your device’s notification screen. If an update is available for your device then you simply tap the notification and follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the update.
If you still haven’t received the T-Mobile US Sony Xperia Z Jelly Bean 4.3 update then you can check manually, if a update is available for your device. To check for notification manually, go to Applications >Settings >About phone >Software update.
Since the update is about 312 MB in size, we recommend a stable WiFi connection. We also recommend that before trying to install the update on your device, make sure that your battery status level is above 60% (80% recommended).
Users can also install Jelly Bean 4.3 update using Sony PC Companion. After installing the software on your PC, start it and connect your Xperia Z to PC using USB cable. The software should automatically detect that an update is available for your device. If not, then in Sony PC Companion, click on Start > Support Zone > Phone Software Update. PC companion must now detect the update and show onscreen instructions to install the update on your Xperia Z.
It’s a bit shame that T-Mobile US Sony Xperia Z users are still being presented with Jelly Bean 4.3 update whereas Sony has already started rolling out Android 4.4.2 update to global Xperia Z users but as they say, it’s better to have something rather than nothing.
