Good news for Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone and tablet users, we have received official confirmation that they are going to receive an Android 4.4.4 KitKat update. The Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone and Sony Xperia Z2 tablet Android 4.4.4 update was already released for the same devices but for some reasons users were unable to download and install it.
We have confirmation from the official Xperia blog that a new certificate is released for both Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone and Sony Xperia Z2 tablet devices. This update will bump the existing firmware to the latest build of Android 4.4.4 KitKat with firmware build number 23.0.1.A.0.167.
According to the official blog post, this update will be available for D6502 & D6503 variants of Xperia Z2 smartphones and SGP521 & SGP541 variants of the Xperia Z2 tablet devices.
This new update will bring with it many new features and user interface elements of Sony Xperia Z3. Also, along with this update you will receive the latest bug fixes, security patches and an enhanced dialer.
Once this new certification is complete and ready to be released, Sony will start rolling out the firmware update in stages. This means that not all the device owners will receive the update at once, it might be a while until the update is available for your device.
As usual, this update will be rolled out in form of an OTA (Over-The-Air) update. Once the OTA update is ready for your device, you will receive an OTA update notification on your device’s notification bar. Once you receive the OTA update notification, just tap on the update and follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the update on your device.
If the official notification fails to appear on your device automatically then you can perform a manual check under the Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check Now.
