Earlier this month, Moto G 1st Gen receviced Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Few days later, Moto G GPE received Android 5.1 Lollipop update. Now, Moto G Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update is available for the 1st and 2nd generation of the device. The Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update is available for Moto G 1st Gen and Moto G 2nd Gen devices.
The most strange part about this firmware release is that there’s no official word about the update. The users who own the 1st and 2nd generation of Moto G have themselves reported that they are currently receiving the update. According to the users, Moto G 1st generation has firmware build version number LXB22.46-25 and system version number 220.21.25. Moto G 2nd generation on the other hand, has firmware build version LXB22.46-25 while the system version is 22.21.25. Users also report that the size of the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for Moto G devices is just 10.8 Mb.
As we already said, there’s no official news on the update, which means that there’s no changelog, yet. Even then, you should surely install this update as it will contain the bug fixes and enhancement patches which prevailed in previous firmware release. After this firmware upgrade, you device should be more stable and secure. Also, since the size of the update is so small, you can download the update using your mobile data plan. Just make sure that you have more than 50% battery backup before you try to install the update.
The update is being released in form of Over-The-Air (OTA) update, which means that it will take some time before the update is delivered to your device. Once the update is ready to be installed on your device, you will receive an official OTA update notification. To install the update, just tap on the notification and tap on Download Now button on the popup. Once the update is completely downloaded, press Install now to begin installing the update. Your Moto G will automatically reboot and update will be installed on it automatically.
Sometimes, the update fails to arrive on the device automatically. In such case, you should check for the availability of the update manually. To check for the update manually, go to Settings > About phone > System updates > Check for updates. If update is available, you will receive the notification.
