Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini users, who were eagerly waiting for an Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be disappointed since AT&T has released yet another update of Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Since AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Android 4.4.2 KitKat update was already released previously, this is a minor update but it does bring some new features to the device.
Since Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is currently running Android 4.4 KitKat, all the KitKat goodies such as color emoji support, new Location menu, transparent status and nav bars, cloud printing, white status bar icons, immersive mode, or full screen album and movie art in the lock screen were already provided in the previous release.
According to official changelog, this new minor update brings v4v6 for IMS PDN while roaming, SIM less 911 Dialing update, ISIM SQN re-sync for VoLTE re-registration, and VoLTE inter-op call hold. This new Android 4.4.2 KitKat update has firmware build version KOT49H.I257UCU2BNK1.
As usual, AT&T will roll out this update in form of an FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) update. Since FOTA update are released in gradual steps, some of the users will have to wait for some tome to receive the update. Once you device is ready to receive the update, you will receive an official update notification on your device’s. To install the update, just tap on the notification and follow the onscreen prompts to download and install the update. In case, the update notification fails to arrive on your device, you can always perform a manual check on the update. To check for the update manually, go to Settings > More > About phone > Software updates > Check for software updates.
Alternatively, you can also download the update via Kies application. Just install the Kies application on your PC and connect your Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini to PC via official USB cable. Make sure that you have an internet access, Kies will show you information that an update is available for your device. Just follow the instruction to download and install the official Android 4.4.2 KitKat update on AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.
According to the changelogs, the update might vary from 102MB to 595MB in size, depending on which firmware build version you are currently running on. Since the update is very heavy in size, we recommend to use a stable WiFi connection to download the update. Also, make sure that you have more than 50% battery backup before you try to install the update.
