This update will be provided in the form of OTA (Over-The-Air) and will update the AT&T variant of Galaxy Mega (SGH-i527) to KitKat 4.4.2. It will also bump the firmware to baseband version I527UCUBNE7.
This update bring many new feature, bug fixes, enhancement patches other UI improvements. This upgrade introduces support for secure NFC-based transactions through Host Card Emulation (HCE).
With this update you can also add printing support to the apps or develop print services to support specific types of printers. This update also introduces firmware which simplify users to browse and open documents, images, and other files across their preferred document storage providers. Moreover, the new semantics and providers improve the user’s experience when using multiple messaging apps.
The new firmware upgrade also helps introduces full-screen Immersive mode and system wide close captioning (CC) which can be change via Settings > Accessibility > Google subtitles (CC) and Samsung subtitles (CC). This update also offers On-device memory status and profiling which can be accessed via Settings > Developer options > Process stats.
Other updates include Beat Music and ISIS Wallet which now comes preloaded, Air view is set as OFF by default, AT&T Drive Mode is changed to Drive Mode, Camera shortcut added to Lock screen, etc. A full list of updates can be viewed by checking the official Samsung Galaxy Mega update webpage.
Since the firmware update is available in the form of OTA, it will be some time when users of all regions receive this update. When an official update is available for your device, you will receive an official update notification message. Just tap on this message and follow onscreen instructions to download and install KitKat 4.2.2 update.
To check for the update manually, go to Settings > More > About device > Software update > Check for updates. If an update is available, you will get an update notification on your device’s notification screen.
