Just like AT&T, Verizon is also bringing one more Android 4.4.4 KitKat update to their devices. Another Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is now available for the users before the Lollipop update is delivered to the device.
This new Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is a minor update which brings bug fixes and enhancement patches. Also, you might know that Isis, the U.S. mobile wallet platform backed by AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon has rebranded its name to Softcard, since the former name now represents a terrorist group. This update also brings the Isis app with its new name Softcard. This firmware update will bump the existing firmware version to KTU84P.G900VVrU1ANK2.
As with all other update, this update will also be released in gradual phases, which means not all devices will receive this update at once. Currently, the update is only rolled out as an OTA (Over-The-Air) update and we expect it to be released out through Kies soon. Once your device is ready to receive this update via OTA, you will receive a notification on your device’s notification screen. Just tap on the update and follow the instructions to update your device to the latest available firmware. Sometimes, the automatic update notification fails to appear on your device. In such case, you should perform a manual check by going to Settings> More> About Phone> Software menu.
Since there’s no official changelog provided by Verizon, we are not sure about the size of this update. Thus, we recommend you to download this update only via stable WiFi connect as it might harm your mobile internet data plan. Also, make sure that you have more than 50% battery backup before you try to install this update.
You might have already heard that Samsung has released Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Samsung Galaxy S5. So, we expect Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 to be updated to the latest Lollipop firmware some time in early January 2015. So, if you want to get the Lolliop update on your Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5, we recommend you to install this update since latest updates are only provided only to those running the most updated firmware.
