Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 KitKat 4.4.2 OTA Update

Just after AT&T released KitKat 4.4.2 OTA update for Samsung Galaxy S3, Verizon has also released the same update for its variant. Verizon has released the KitKat 4.4.2 OTA update for Samsung Galaxy S4 mini as well. Both these updates were previously running on Jelly Bean 4.3 and this aims to upgrade the devices to KitKat 4.4.2.

According to the official document for Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 KitKat 4.4.2 update, this firmware update will bump the existing firmware to JSS15J.I535VRUCNC1. Since this is a major update, this update brings many features and functions with it. Some of the key features added are the addition of support for Knox 2.0, preloaded Isis Wallet, full view of cover file on Lock Screen while playing music and opening Emoticon after pressing the period key for about 2 seconds.

Many issues have also been resolved such as Bluetooth connectivity with Motospeak, Backup Assistant+ Contacts sync issues, Dialer App connectivity issues, Data Connectivity Issue, Read only message sender while using Driving Mode Setting, Wi-Fi stability and much more.

A lot of changes have also been made such as Google+ Photos is renamed as Photos, Play Magazine is renamed as Play Newsstand, Google+ User Locations 4×2 Widgets have been added, S Suggest, S Bookmark 1×1 and Samsung Musing 4×1 widgets have been removed and Music Hub has been removed from Samsung Hub. Multi-Window now has much more features than their previous versions. It offers much more apps for opening in multi window along with options to create multi-window combinations.

Since this update is provide in form of an OTA (Over-The-Air) update, not all regions will receive the update at the same time. Once your device becomes eligible for the update, you will receive an official OTA update notification on your device’s notification screen. Just tap on this update to download and install this update on your device.

In case you want to check for the Android 4.4.2 OTA update manually, go to Settings > More > About Device > Software Update > Check for updates. If an update is available for your device, you will receive the OTA update notification, just tap on this notification message and follow the onscreen prompts.
