Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2 KitKat 4.4.2 update

Verizon isn’t among those carriers that release regular updates for their device. Verizon is usually the last carrier to roll out new updates, something that has made them lose a lot of clients. The international and Sprint variant of Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has received the KitKat 4.4.2 update few months ago. By now, the Verizon users were beginning to loose hope that they will ever receive Android 4.4.2 update for their Note 2. But finally, Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2 KitKat 4.4.2 update has finally arrived.

Even though it took a very long time for Verizon to begun rolling out KitKat 4.4.2 update, all we can say is “better late than never”.

According to the official Verizon’s document for Samsung Galaxy Note 2, several additions, updates and enhancements have been done in the latest KitKat update. Addition of support for Knox 2.0 is one of the biggest addition in this update as it brings more functionality and enhanced security for enterprise users.

Knox 2.0 include the following features :-

  • Dual Persona
  • TIMA Real Time Kernel Protection
  • Trust-Zone based ODE
  • Universal MDM Client and Samsung Enterprise Gateway
  • Knox Generic VPN Framework

In addition to the inclusion of Knox 2.0, Keyboard options for KitKat have also been changed. Several apps and widgets such as Google Drive, Photos, Play Newsstand and Emergency Alerts App Icon have been updated. While S Suggest and Samsung Music apps have been removed.

Several issues such as error code popups fixed in Backup Assistant, connectivity issue when streaming music, Text alert issues for select factory installed car kits, etc have been resolved. Support for Galaxy Gear 2 has also been include. This update tried to resolve problems faced by many users and provide them what they were asking for a long time. The software version of this update is KOT49H.I605VRUFND7.

As this update is released in form of OTA (Over-The-Air), it will be released in gradual steps instead of being released in all the region at once. Thus, it might be a while when your receive the official OTA update notification. You can always check manually whether the update is available in your region. To check for update manually, go to Menu > Settings > More > About device > Software update > Check for updates. If an update is available for your device, you will get notification.
