Micromax launched it’s first Cynogen powered dual SIM smartphone in India, Micromax Yureka. This is the first device in YU series which was launched after Micromax got the exclusive agreement for selling Cynogen powered smartphones in the South Asian markets. Micromax Yureka will be sold to the customers in India early next year and the registration for the device has already begun.
Cynogen company is famous for releasing custom ROMs to Android smartphones and tablets. Their ROMs are generally considered best since they further enhance the software capabilities of the device than provided in the stock ROMs. They also provided many UI and feature customization that improve the overall performance of the device. Many developers on XDA, use the source code of Cynogen (previously Cynogenmod) to create their own versions of custom ROM.
Micromax Yureka will be launched with Cyanogen OS11 installed on it. Cyanogen OS11 consists of many performance enhancements, customisation and enhanced encryption. Cyanogen OS11 is based on KitKat 4.4 and it is unknown whether it will be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop. But since Yureka runs on Cynogen’s rom, we expect it will surely get the Lollipop update.
In terms of hardware specifications, Micromax Yureka consist of 5.5 inch (1280×720) HD IPS with Corning Gorilla glass 3 display with 267 ppi. At the heart of the device lies Qualcomm snapdragon 615 (64 Bit) Octa core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. It consist of 2500mAh battery with 13MP Rear and 5MP front camera, capable of recording high resolution videos upto 1080p pixels. The device has 2GB DDR3 RAM, 16GB internal memory which can be expanded to 32 GB using external microSD card. Additional specifications include G-sensor, Proximity, Light Sensor/Gyroscope sensor, 4G LTE and dual SIM support.
The dual SIM Micromax Yureka is priced at Rs. 8,999/- and if you register before Christmas, you will receive free accessories worth Rs 999/- from Amazon. YU Yureka is currently the cheapest 4G smartphone in India. At this price, Yureka early beat Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G. It is expected that the sales will commence from the second week of January 2015. You might have already heard that Micromax has filed a court case again Oneplus One device for selling in India as Micromax holds the exclusive rights to sell Cynogen powered devices in South Asian markets. Micromax hasn’t reveled any plans for selling YU Yureka to other South Asian countries yet although it might consider it in the future, depending on the success of the device in India.
